Billy Graham: Liberal?
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Elections, ReligionSay what you will about them, but this just proves how saavy Hill and Bill are.
Graham called the Clintons “wonderful friends” and “a great couple,” quipping that the former president should become an evangelist and allow “his wife to run the country.”
Folks, this was Graham’s LAST revival. He’s going to pass on soon. How they managed to pull this off I will NEVER know, but kudos to them. Sure, it was said jokingly, but that doesn’t matter. To a lot of people, this is like having Jesus himself say, “I’d vote for her.”
Thoughts?

Post his seemingly quite intimate relationship with Nixon (and I’m talking about the traumatized, near to nervous breakdown virtually demanding that Kissinger get on his knees and accompany him in prayer, Nixon) I was VERY surprised to hear from quite a few sources that the elder Graham was not only a Democrat, but, in most areas, an unabashed Liberal to boot!
Since then, while I’ve not heard anything that specifically contradicts this, I have come across a number of articles that, without a hint of ambiguity, say that the man is an anti-Semite of the worst (think Mel Gibson) sort, (at least a third of these dated before 1980, several published as far back as the early 60′s).
While I’m not losing sleep over it, I am curious enough that at some point, most probably after he passes, I’ll try and find something approaching an honest biography (i.e. neither hagiography nor hatchet job) and see if I can get a handle on the guy.
