Time To Hand Over Source In Plame Case?
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Good Decisions, WarIn the wake of Deep Throat’s self-outing, Time magazine seems to think that revealing a source is okay. Something tells me this won’t cut down on whistleblowers…
More from Editor & Publisher:
When Matthew Cooper of Time magazine and Judith Miller of The New York Times return late Wednesday afternoon to face the federal judge who ordered them to jail last fall for refusing to reveal confidential sources, two different outcomes may emerge. While New York Times officials have maintained that Miller will not reveal the source who leaked to her the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame, a source close to Time Inc. told E&P that the company is considering handing over documents that would reveal the source.
The difference here is that the source leaked highly classified information to get back at Joe Wilson for not following the company line. And whatever you think of Joe Wilson, it’s simply not right to out a CIA agent and risk the lives of other operatives connected to her. Wrong, wrong, so very wrong.
Sure, people will cry “rat”, but if you put it in perspective, this makes complete sense. An injustice will be righted and we can put this whole thing behind us.
Not a bad scenario if you ask me.
