Did you know that the lifespan of a laptop computer is 3 to 5 years on average in the United States?

Depending on how well the computer is maintained and the specs that you get, your laptop can last much longer.

If you want to buy a new computer and get the most for your money, you will have to look for a couple of things.

1. Processing System

One of the most important laptop specs to consider when buying a computer is the processing system.

The processing system is the central processing unit (CPU), which is a chip that helps run your computer. Some of the most common companies that make CPUs include Apple, Intel, and AMD. Intel and Apple are commonly used by people who need their laptops for work and school.

If you are looking for the fastest CPU, the Intel Core i9 is recommended. If you hear your disk drive spinning or the fans turn on while your laptop boots up, you might have a poor processing system that needs to be updated.

Another problem that people experience with a bad processor is when the screen remains blank. No matter how much clicking and typing you try, you won’t get a response from these laptops. If you want to improve your processing system, consider adding more RAM and limiting the number of programs on your computer.

2. RAM Level

The Random Access Memory (RAM) is an important feature when buying a new computer.

As the RAM number goes up, your computer will work faster. This means that if you are looking at a 4GB of RAM laptop, it will run much slower when compared to a laptop with 64 GB of RAM. The purpose of RAM is to act as short-term memory storage for your laptop.

This is the data that gets temporarily stored until the processor in the computer needs it. This is different from long-term data, which gets stored in the hard drive. If you tend to use a lot of systems at once on your computer, it is recommended that you get a higher level of RAM.

If you are planning to do simple browsing on the internet, 4 to 8 GB will work. Gamers will require at least 32 GB of RAM so that their image quality and connection don’t suffer or lag.

3. Hard Drive

If you want to buy a laptop, you need to learn about hard drives.

Hard drives are the long-term data storage unit that keeps information, even while the computer is shut down. Hard drives are built into the laptop and attached to the disk controller in a laptop’s motherboard. This gets powered on through a connection with the computer’s power supply unit.

The hard drive will give you the ability to store all of your data, including files and software that you use for work and education. Since hard drives don’t have unlimited space, consider this before investing in your laptop.

An interesting fact about hard drives is that a computer can still function without one. Networks, USBs, CDs, and DVDs can all be run on a laptop without a hard drive.

4. Wireless & Bluetooth Capabilities

Whether you want an Apple computer or PC, you will want to be sure that it has wireless and Bluetooth capabilities.

Most laptops will come with these features but some of them that are going for a cheaper rate, might now. When you are looking at computers, check how easy it is to access these features and make connections.

If you are having issues with wireless, you might have to upgrade the internet in your home or office. Do this before investing in another computer, thinking that there is an issue with the one you already bought. Bluetooth is also great to have because it allows you to connect with speakers, keyboards, and mousepads.

5. Warranties

Warranties from damage are a good thing to look into when you want to buy a new laptop.

Although a MacBook Case can prevent your computer from breaking, you should still get a warranty. Warranties will help you cover the costs if your computer gets wet, falls, or the screen cracks. It can be expensive to cover these fees when you aren’t expecting them.

Depending on the warranty, you can get the laptop replaced in a period. Most of the time these warranties are used is when the system crashes or a bug is preventing it from working properly.

6. Insurance

Theft and damage insurance is a smart thing to put your money into.

When you are comparing laptops, look at their insurance policy. Some policies will have you still be responsible for a portion of the costs while other companies have full coverage. If someone were to break into your home or office and take your computer, insurance will help you get a new one.

If you are traveling with your laptop, premium insurance is highly recommended.

7. Cost

New laptops can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars.

Depending on what the purpose of your computer is, you will need to think about how much you want to invest. If you don’t have all of the money saved up, and the computer costs a lot, you can put it on a credit line and make monthly payments.

8. Laptop Size

Laptop sizes are important to look at because you want the computer to be large enough.

Doing detailed work and having a lot of tabs open at once can be tough if you only have 9 inches of screen to work with. If you like having a large image and the ability to view a lot of things at once, try looking for a laptop that is 13 inches or more.

As you go up in size, the weight of the laptop will also increase.

Look for Laptop Specs Like These

If you are on the hunt for a new computer but don’t know what to look for, there are a couple of terms to learn.

Whether you are buying a new computer or one that has been refurbished, laptop specs will make a difference in the computer’s performance. If you want fast responses and plenty of storage, you will need to know how many GB of RAM there are and the processor that it runs on.

Keep in mind that the older the laptop is, the heavier and slower it will be. You might also lack enough storage space with these options.
