We’re Damn Inventive When It Comes To Killin’

The Air Force is looking at using balloons or blimps in the upper atmosphere, or “near space,” for battlefield communications and intelligence.

“I’ve been intrigued by near space’s potential for persistent space-like effects on the battlefield ever since I first heard about it,” the Air Force’s chief of staff, Gen. John Jumper, wrote earlier this year in a forward to a paper on the subject. “Near-space has been a cultural blind spot — too high up for aircraft, but too low for satellites.”

While this high-altitude balloons tech is very interesting, it aint orbiting solar collectors, and it for damn sure aint a super-cool protective space ring.

Isn’t it a shame we can’t get past this ridiculous ‘war’ rubbish as our national priority?
