I’m conservative and have felt very comfortable in the conservative/libertarian end of the blogosphere. But, while I hate to feel locked in an echo chamber, I can find practically no liberal bloggers who have not sold out their sanity in a Bush/Republican-hating frenzy. I’m confident I could get along with these people in person, but the online partisanship and insane conspiratorial attributions is obscenely ridiculous. A site like Donklephant might be good for my blood pressure. It would be nice to see some respectful discussion and disagreement, and to share with others who likewise attempt to escape the instinct to jump to partisan defenses of the indefensible.

I think a compromise website cannot become a very popular site however, because compromise is hard. On the web, we can usually find a few sites that reaffirm our own opinions, and it becomes easy to view all disagreement as the intrusion of trolls or “wingnuts” into our own insular “reality-based community.” I’ll try to stop in and get to know the place better.

Hello ss, my name is Justin Gardner. I’m the editor of this site. Now, you’ve met one liberal blogger who isn’t possesed by this “frenzy.” ;-)

Hi! Mr. Gardner, I like your website. I just finished reading the “Harry Plotter” post, and I liked it– it was interesting. It’s nice to know that there are other people who catch errors in books (by the way, there are also some errors in quotation use…). I finished the book two days ago…Anyway–great job!
