Novak Pops a Vein

By Callimachus | Related entries in Bad Decisions, General Politics, Media

Stalks off the set of something called “Inside Politics” that looks like the kind of show that makes me glad I stopped watching TV while Rhonda Shear was still hosting “USA Up All Night.”
OK, I’m the wrong guy to do postings about TV talking heads shows. But no one else is awake at this hour.

Note To Democrats: Wise Up

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Elections, General Politics, Smart Things Said By Smart People

This editorial from Joan Vennochi is so spot on I wish the Dems would reprint it and distribute it among the faithful. Especially sections like this:
Democrats continue to fight the last campaign, while Republicans are planning for the next two. While the Democrats are busy bashing Bush — a second-term president who is not running [...]

More Good News About John Roberts

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Good Decisions, Supreme Court

Say what you will about what he “might” do, but now I come to find out that John Roberts fought for gay rights:

United States v. KELO

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Economy, Supreme Court

About a month ago, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of broadening eminent domain rules to include condemning private land for the “public good.” We wrote about KELO at that time.
Now we’re hearing that liberals and conservatives are coming together to fight this very questionable decision on eminent domain:
In Washington, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, [...]

The IED Marketplace

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in The War On Terrorism, War

I just ran across a great article on Global Guerillas about the methods of financing and creating an Improvised Explosive Device or IED for short.
The reason I bring this up is because of the tragic death of 14 Marines after one of these devices upended their 25 ton device. This stuff is getting very serious [...]

It’s Official: “War On Terror” Name Stays

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Foreign Policy, General Politics, The War On Terrorism

I applauded the Administration for trying to change the terminology in an early post about the War On Terror, but the President doesn’t want it that way. I realize this may seem like a small deal to a lot of people, but in this specific case I really thinks the semantics of the [...]

Frist vs. Drug Ads

By Montag | Related entries in General Politics

Lindsay Beyerstein at Majikthise posts about Bill Frist’s call to end direct to consumer (DTC) prescription drug advertisements, and the political implications of his doing so. Beyerstein concludes that “Frist’s defection may say more about the political fortunes of movement conservatism than about Frist’s own prospects.”

Supreme Court Priorities

By Montag | Related entries in Polls, Supreme Court

Donklephant has been tracking opinion on the Supreme Court. Another interesting opinion poll asked Americans about the importance of issues the Supreme Court makes decisions on. 63% ranked abortion as “very important” and an almost equal number (62%) gave the same ranking to “detained terrorists’ rights.”
“This important question of the trade-off of civil [...]
