I can also confirm this is a hoax. Chris wrote to his fans personally back in the fall to say that he isn't running for president. You can see his letter here
http://www.walkenfanclub.com/images/walkensept05letter.jpg
Also, his agent Toni Howard also spoke about it to the LA Times
http://www.azcentral.com/ent/pop/articles/0819walkenforprez0819.html

It would be cool if it were true, but it isn't. Sorry

The site is a hoax. I spoke to Maura Buxbaum at ID PR, Walken's publicist. She said that Walken "has no aspirations for public office."

"Clinton was elected in 1992 because Ross Perot sucked off enough Rep-ish votes."

Actually, this is a bit of conventional wisdom that Republicans have used to convince themselves that the Bush 2000 election was no different than Clinton in 92. However, exit polls showed that Perot voters were split nearly 50-50 on which candidate they would have voted for if Perot wasn't in the race, despite Republican claims that they would have all gone for Bush.

According to the United States Secretary of State’s office, Christopher Walken has not yet filed any notices of eligibility or paid any fees to get his name on any ballots.

Give the guy a break. It's 2005. All that you mention can be done later if enough support can be mustered. Right now he's looking to see if it's there. With all due respect, give it some time before you cry "sham."

And by the way, I'm more than willing to admit I'm wrong about all this, but I think it's too early to tell if the guy is lying or not. The website (if you read it) seems very serious and very consistent. Let's wait and see.

If he's unwilling to reform the Dems, he's most likely to split them even worse than Nader.

"losing lives at war" implies he'd rather lose lives, like 9/11, while NOT at war? Sounds like an anti-war, non Christian, therefore Dem variant.

Nixon was elected in 1968 because of Wallace.
Jon Anderson did NOT stop Reagan from being elected in 1980 (but did stop Ed Clark, Libertarian, from establishing a real party)
Clinton was elected in 1992 because Ross Perot sucked off enough Rep-ish votes.
Bush was elected in 2000 because Nader sucked off enough Dem-ish votes.

Smart strategy though, if he wants to be independent.
