I am looking for any Katrina survivors in the Evansville, IN or Tri-State area. As a survivor, I would like to talk to others. I am living in an area that was hit by a tornado 2 and 1/2 months after Katrina. To see the response and community out reach here for the survivors of that tornado was and still is amazing. Funds are still being created for them. That is part of the reason I am glad to be here. Seeing how government and community are supposed to come together in time of crisis proves to me that New Orleans is not going to get the help that it truly needs. The federal and local government will not allow it due to their own selfish motives. It saddens me to know that the place I was born and raised, the celebrations and festivals my family and I supported, I can no longer support. I know some will think that I am just giving up. But I carry the New Orleans I have known and loved for my 28 years on this earth, with me in my heart. When Hurricane Katrina struck on my son's 4 month birthday, I thought that it would be a few months before we could go back. I am no longer naive enough to think that the support I gave will be reciprocated. And my, now 13 month old, son will grow up knowing where he was born and came from but appreciating the loving and embracing home where he now lives.
