Not a good idea. The job of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is VERY VERY important, not only in the performance of the duties listed in this post, but also in guiding and leading the Supreme Court. The Chief Justice is supposed to set the tone of the court, provide leadership and ensure that opinions handed down are comprehensive, decisive and have precedential value. It's a very difficult and PERMANENT job, and it seems more than a little hazardous to appoint someone to that position who clearly does not have the necessary experience to automatically become the Chief Justice. I would almost rather see a more conservative judge, who is currently on the Supreme Court, get the job over someone who just won't be able to fill those shoes.
