My daughter is eleven now.

She brought me back from the edge of being almost a thing, to being near human again. I had never known that it was even possible to love someone as much as I love her.

But though I found the above a wonderful read I guess along with all the joy she brings, parenthood has brought fear as well.

I hope that her life will be better than mine, that she'll have her own family to love one day, never be hungry and not live through too much sorrow.

All of your children, too. It's sad that the choices our governments and the crazies make are often choices we must live with as well.

As an expecting mother- I too hope that my child will be okay from within. Not just confident and secure, but a beacon of truth inside. I pray for the courage to lead by example, speak from my heart and love from the depths of my humanity! Beautiful poem- a definite addition to my journal.

Michael, oh Michael: Yes Barbies, smarties and sustaining on fries are inevitable; but at worse they serve as great jesting to keep you smiling- at best, they build character for those (parents) who survive the stages!

Thanks everyone for Sharing

To bring up a child in the world is the ultimate act of optimism. But it wil inevitably turn you toward an optimistic attitude about the world. Not naive belief in a perfect world and an ideal future. But the ability to dream a better world and the belief that human effort (and a little divine luck) can get us there.

A very beautiful post. These are things I consider as I watch my own little girl growing every day.

Haha! Indeed michael.

To Cicero...wow. I've always thought I wanted to before, but this serves as a good reminder to why I want to be a father.

And to the point of the post, I think we're both trying to make this world a better place. Otherwise, why would we be here writing these things? Hopefully the coming generations will reap the benefits of us not being able to shut up and accept things as they are.

Again, beautiful post. Well done.

Lovely writing. In a few years though you'll have a whole different set of questions: Is she ever going to shut up? Can she live on a diet of fries and Smarties? Why is she saying that in public? Is she going out of the house dressed like that? Can I say no to Barbie? (No, you can't.) Can I tell her that boy is a punk?
