Both the Minneapolis and St. Paul races were Democrat vs. Democrat. <a href="http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/local/13117439.htm" rel="nofollow">The Minneapolis incumbent, R.T. Rybak, cruised to re-election over Peter McLaughlin</a>. Across the river in St. Paul, <a href="http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/13118626.htm" rel="nofollow">incumbent Randy Kelly was soundly defeated by Chris Coleman</a>. Kelly's defeat was attributed not to dissatisfaction over his job performance, but to his crossing party lines to support President Bush in 2004.
