		<description>I am a big proponent of gas-to-liquids and coal-to-liquids technology.  I think they can take the place of a meaningful portion of crude-derived products.  But let's be perfectly honest:  the act of mining the coal is decidedly NOT friendly to the environment.  Secondly, the process of turning the coal into synfuel produces significant CO2, so greenhouse gases are NOT reduced when compared to crude refined products.

Coal-to-liquids is not a panacea.  Conservation must be part of the mix.</description>
