Hmm, interesting question... I need to think very carefully...

How is about the converse -

To what extent should the media (a newspaper) publish, without question, only the "news" that an administration wants heard?

What reason could the NYT have for printing that info? Why do they
even feel the need to print it? I honestly can't come up with a need for
the American public (or the world) to know that kind of info.

I wonder how they obtained the info. If it was thru freedom of information, there still was no good reason to. However, this seems
like it <i> should </i> be classified info. If that's the case, who leaked it? That could be much more dangerous than leaking the name of a CIA operative. Back in WWII, that type of leak could lead to an execution. aaahhhh.... the good old days.

I think that the press shouldn't print stuff that helps the enemy in any way...

I understand that they feel very strongly about the public's right to know. I also feel very strongly about it in normal circumstances, when we are at war and 'telling' the public about something during that war helps the enemy during the war is a different matter. It's not that I have a problem with telling us about it, it is 'when' they tell us about it. If you want to have investigations into conduct, do it after the war. If you want to point out something that you think was done wrong, do it after the war. We can debate about it then... not when something you say can cause the death of a soldier.

It is truly sad that there are so many people that put their political party before their country.
