Tucker Carlson’s Canadian Shame
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Partisan Hacks, Quotes, The World“Canada is a sweet country. It is like your retarded cousin you see at Thanksgiving and sort of pat him on the head. You know, he’s nice but you don’t take him seriously. That’s Canada.”
But, you know, he’s just kidding…

OK I’ll admit it, I chuckled a little when I read that.
I guess I’m a dick, too.

Really? Comparing Canada, who we get more of our oil than any other country in the world, to a retarded cousin?
Wow Ford…that’s disheartening…

Given the level of invective directed toward France by the right in the last few years, let’s not act surprised. It’s a lovely example of the modern conservatarian attitude towards foreign policy: Insulting and alienating long term allies over minor dissagreements is a central feature.

This Tucker Carlson’s a “conservative”? I don’t watch TV, so I’ve only heard the name before recently. I went and read what he writes, though. Doesn’t look too much like anything I’d agree with, and people around here call me a conservative. “Bush is an idiot, the war was a big mistake,” etc., etc.
As for “long-term allies,” and insults, playing against the Americans has been a feature of Canadian politics just as surely as it has been for France and Germany, since before Bush. That’s the kind of world we live in now.
Ever read what the Canadians say about us? Ever get miffed by it? Ever criticize them fore it? Ever wonder why not?

That comment is nothing compared to what canada and our so called allies say about us.
