So, He’s Black…You’re Black…

Tim Russert asked Barack Obama a question yesterday on Meet The Press, and frankly I thought it was just plain dumb.

The question concerned Harry Belafonte’s ridiculous, recent comments about Bush being the biggest terrorist in the world. After watching the Meet The Press clip (linked above), I can only imagine what Obama was thinking afterwards.

Now, I realize that I’m making a leap here on the whole racial angle, but this honestly seems very clumsy on Russert’s part. And looking that angle, do Republican Senators have to answer for the ridiculous things that various religious right leaders say? Please provide me with examples if they do, but I haven’t seen anything lately. In other words, just because a certain person votes for your party, doesn’t mean you align yourself with their extremist views.

And by the way, when the hell did Harry Belafonte’s comments become so pertinent to the conversation? Listen, I realize he was once a celebrity, but big f’ing deal. I guess he did make a point to travel to other parts of the world to denounce Bush, but really…come on.

One last thing. As I focus back on the whole racial angle…do you want to guess who Russert last asked about Belanfonte? I’ll give you a hint…his name rhymes with Polin Cowell.
