Dems In 2006?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Elections

Political Wire alerts me to this:

A Pew Research survey finds Democrats with “a sizable lead in the congressional horse race and an advantage on most major issues.” In a generic ballot, Democrats lead by 50% to 41% among registered voters andretain “a huge advantage on traditional party strengths like the environment and health care.” Democrats also lead the ability “to deal with the economy (by 46%-36%) and reform the federal government (42%-29%). Terrorism, and to a lesser extent crime, remain the GOP’s only strong issues.”

Numbers can change, but it would be nice to see more of a balance return to our government.

What do you think?

The trick is, people say they want a change, but when it comes to their representatives, they usually vote for the incumbent anyway. For instance, I don’t think my Rep (Bartlett, a Republican) is doing a terrible job - I think he’s a pretty good influence on the Republican party, despite getting whipped into line most of the time. So it means I have to be pissed enough at the Republican Party to kick him out anyway… For me, I’m about at that point, but I doubt there are enough like minded people in my pretty conservative district to make a difference.

I think if the Democrats pick up one of the two houses, they’d be lucky as hell - as would be the rest of the country.

Generic ballots put the dems ahead in both 2002 and 2004.

  3. Tom Strong Says:

Tom and Jimmy are right. I want a better-balanced government too; yet at the same time, I also want the Democrats to wise up. Instead, I worry that they’re dumbing down.

That said, according to Rasmussen polling the Democrats are looking strong in a large number of specific races.

[...] Donklephant (a new blog I ran across last week) has a post up about a new Pew poll that gives Democrats something to smile about. [...]

    Poll Position

Can the Democrats solve their strategic issues and add some balance to the political scene? Donklephant asks the question, and has some poll numbers that suggest they might have an opportunity, but I’m still concerned about their overall ability…
