Plus, Russia still wants to keep as many of its neighbours as possible as allies to keep a buffer between it and the US. The Russian military actually told the Kremlin a few years ago that they were preparing for a land war with the US within a decade. There's no war to be won in the Middle East. Surely you aren't suggesting that Russia and China are planning to join Iran in some kind of physical attack? I could be wrong, but it is my understanding that neither of those two countries is excited about the idea of Iran having nuclear weapons.
