On Commenting…

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Blogging

We have a automatic comment policy here on Donklephant. The spammers won’t read this so I feel safe to talk about this information.

So, if you have more than two pointer URLs in your comment, it will be held for moderation. Sorry, but that’s how it goes. It doesn’t mean we think your comment is dangerous, bad or blah.blah.blah. It’s just that we don’t want to automatically approve comments that have those in them, because that’s the hallmark of spammers.

Hope this helps.

You guys are obviously using WordPress… have you tried using any of the spam protection plugins? I personally use Typo, so I’m pretty much immune to spam comments, but with a decent filter, most people find that they might remove one or two spam comments that make it through in maybe a month or so. I’m not sure what the best filters are, but I’ve seen a lot of people using Spam Karma 2.

NOTE TO COMMENTERS:

You must ALWAYS fill in the two word CAPTCHA below to submit a comment. And if this is your first time commenting on Donklephant, it will be held in a moderation queue for approval. Please don't resubmit the same comment a couple times. We'll get around to moderating it soon enough.

Also, sometimes even if you've commented before, it may still get placed in a moderation queue and/or sent to the spam folder. If it's just in moderation queue, it'll be published, but it may be deleted if it lands in the spam folder. My apologies if this happens but there are some keywords that push it into the spam folder.

One last note, we will not tolerate comments that disparage people based on age, sex, handicap, race, color, sexual orientation, national origin or ancestry. We reserve the right to delete these comments and ban the people who make them from ever commenting here again.

Thanks for understanding and have a pleasurable commenting experience.
