Religious Politics Starting To Wear Thin?

In Annapolis, (Capital of) Maryland, at a hearing on the proposed Constitutional Amendment to prohibit gay marriage, Jamie Raskin, professor of law at AU, was requested to testify and he did so.At the conclusion of his testimony, a right-wing senator rose to say, “Mr. Raskin, my Bible says that marriage shall occur only between a man and a woman. What do you have to say about that?”
Raskin: “Senator, when you took your oath of office, you placed your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. You did not place your hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible.”
The pendulum is swinging back. Thank God.

Don’t count Jesusistan out.
They know that when the Chimperor goes, so does most of their influence. So expect some really draconian stuff to come out of Jesusistan over the next couple of years.

Raskin’s quote is awesome - nicely said, and quite pointed.
JollyRoger, your word choice made me have to read your comment several times before I understood it. The namecalling doesn’t add anything of value, and makes it easy to dismiss comments as childish.

Agreed David. This isn’t a site for those kinds of comments. You can make them, sure, but people aren’t going to respond favorably to them. Save it for partisan sites JR.

I know that JollyRoger’s comments are not appropriate for this site, but for the record, I thought the words “Chimperor” and “Jesusistan” were on point (and funny).
Plus, certain other people that frequently comment on this site are allowed to get away with using words that are demeaning to us liberals, and they’re words aren’t nearly as funny as JollyRoger’s (according to me, of course).

Hey, you can only tell people so many times what’s appropriate. After that you’re just throwing noise down a hole.
Meredith, liberals would do themselves a big favor by stopping the name calling and talking more about substance. And the chimp thing has NEVER been funny to me. Ugh.
