Donklephant gets a visit from Austin Centrist

Justin Gardner has invited me to post on Donklephant occasionally in parallel with my main blog Austin Centrist . My interest is in promoting centrist candidates and policies. My main project is helping a large team that is considering a National Centrist PAC. We wonder how many more Centrists candidates would run if they didn’t have to pander to the extremes of their party for funding. In the beginning we are likely to focus on close races.

Meanwhile we discuss the definitions of Centrism, the criteria for choosing candidates, removing the obstacles to electing more Centrists, and the Centrist balance in controversial policy. The last is the great ongoing challenge. One person’s moderation is another’s extremism. For instance how do you reconcile “right to life� with “freedom to choose?�
