Ah, no, I tend not to like self-conscious cleverness — in other people; I find my own charming. Barenaked Ladies was enough for me, and only in the ’90s and only in small doses. The older I get the less time I have for the ephemeral. John Coltrane or Johnny Cash will get me through most evenings.

I’ve never heard the song, but I’ve long regarded James K. Polk as the most successful president in American history — he came into office with a certain number of things to do, did them, and retired. Not necessarily nice things, and they didn’t quite turn out as he wished, but in terms of simple performance, he’s matchless.

Now I'm going to have to go listen to this song again, in firmly tongue-in-cheek musical tribute, as I generally do in response to this sort of thing.
