A Big Hit To The Department Of Homeland Security

The spokesman for DHS is in big trouble

Brian J. Doyle, DOB 4/7/50, the Deputy Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., was arrested this evening at his residence in Silver Springs, Maryland, on 23 Polk County charges related to the use of a computer to seduce a child and transmitting harmful materials to a minor. Doyle’s arrest is the result of a joint investigation by the Polk County Sheriff s Office, working with Florida’s 10th Judicial Circuit State Attorney Jerry Hill s office, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Inspector General s Office.

How very sad.

But oddly enough, this is not the first arrest for DHS to involve this type of crime.

In October, Tampa’s newly appointed Immigration and Customs Enforcement special agent in charge, Frank Figueroa, was arrested in an Orlando shopping mall, accused of exposing himself to a teenage girl.

Figueroa is scheduled to appear in court this morning to enter a guilty plea in that case.

[...] Democratic Daily has the latest on John Kerry calling for a May 15 withdrawl from Iraq. Texas-based Supreme Irony of Life has more on this. Donklephant has the latest on a big hit to the Department of Homeland Secutiry. [...]

I was going to write something about how stupid this guy is, then I thought about it. I wish all the perverts trying solicit children were this stupid. I’d feel safer for my kids. Good job by the cops, although I would have liked to see them get his credit card info too, on general principle.

  3. GN Says:

What can you say about this guy, Justin? If he wasn’t a professional civil servant, he probably would have been a Priest! At least there is no Cardinal involved to hide him in another office.

This is “sad” I guess, but I think everyone needs to remember that pedophiles are all over the place. They are male and female, and they are all ages, races, religions, etc. There are poor ones and rich ones. A recent “bust” of an internet child-porn cite by the Feds in my city revealed that the cite had hundreds of thousands of subscribers. This is a very widespread problem.

And, stupidity is not the only reason this man was caught. Most likely, it was the fact that he could not (or would not) control his impulse, coupled with self-destructive tendencies. I know this will not be a popular comment, but we need to stop making fun of and/or fearing these people if we want to make kids safer. This could be a psychological problem, or it might be similar to homosexuality, in that we used to think it was a psychological problem, but now some believe that you are just born that way, that your brain is different, and you don’t have a choice. In any event, if we really want to solve this issue, it needs to be studied, and we need to come up with treatments that work. We can throw people in jail and do “sting operations” all we want, but that will not change the fact that a fairly significant percent of people on this planet are pedophiles.

By the way, a federal judge in my city overturned a conviction that was procured by having a police person pose as an underage kid. Reason being – the statute requires that the person have interactions with someone who is 14 or younger (or whatever the age is), and in actuallity, the cop is not. I can’t remember if the judge said this prevented intent from being formed, or whether he said that in that case the act was not actually committed. This is going up on appeal, but my guess is there will be more challenges of this type to those kinds of “stings.”

The problem, Meredith, is that there isn’t any effective treatments for pedophilia. Even physical castration isn’t always effective. And pedophiles have the highest recidivism rate of any criminal class. The fact is that most of them are smart enough not to get caught, or if they do, they know how to manipulate the system.

And do not equate pedophilia to homosexuality. Homosexuality does not have vicitms, it does not abuse. Pedophilia is closer to sociopathy; to suggest it be classed like homosexuality would be it a step closer to being more mainstream and an “acceptable” alternative lifestyle.

  6. Meredith Says:

    Silver,
I know there are no KNOWN treatment for pedophilia. Cutting off a man’s balls is not going to cure a potentially psychological problem. Just like antisocial personality disorder, the psychiatric community is stumped about pedophilia, but I believe there are answers out there if we spend more resources on finding them. In the meantime, however, I cannot disagree with the fact that they need to be kept off the streets until we can do something else.

I know that people get all worked up when you compare pedophilia to homosexuality. I am not equating them in “that way.” I am simply suggesting the possibility that they may share the same etiology, i.e. organic brain disorders. Just as with homosexuality, there is a question of nurture vs. nature. I am not excited for people to be able to claim that pedophilia is just another lifestyle choice, but none of us are responsible for the claims people will make. I do think that we need to be open to the possibilities, even if the consequences may be unsavory, so that we can find out the truth about what causes (and cures) pedophilia.

  7. GN Says:

Pedophelia is a scourge …. you cannot ever justify pedophiles by saying they are sick … if they are sick and a control can be found through psychiatry or medical research so be it …. in the meantime classify them for what they are …. Predators … just as surely as a wild cat, snake, or any other animal in the food chain, and hust as surely as any virus or plague. The way the human race hs dealt with unknown viruses in the past is through quarantine. That is what we should do with pedophiles … they don’t belong in society.

I can’t speak with authority about the pathology of pedophelia so I will not try. I can speak with authority about quarantine as a current solution. I know that some will start talking about their legal rights …. talk away … and if you believe that these predators should have the same rights as the rest of us … put your money where your mouths are … mvolunteer to let them live in your community, next to your house, near your kids’ school. They are an abberation to society in the same vein as a serial killer. The only answer RIGHT NOW is interrment.

That is the end of my rant. I feel better.

  8. Marty Says:

This guy is also the same DHS mouthpiece who came to the rescue of the air marshalls who murdered
Rigoberto Alpizar in Dec of 2005 in a jetway at Miami International Airport.

I guess Doyle’s karma is catching up with him.
