Who’s this Sean guy, anyway?

By Sean Aqui | Related entries in Blogging

Hi! My name’s Sean Aqui, and I’ve been invited to become a poster here at Donklephant. Justin asked that my first post tell you a little bit about me, so here goes.

My home turf is Midtopia, where I write about politics mostly (duh) with the occasional excursion into religion, science and firing kittens out of cannons.

I’m 38, a married father of two who lives in a suburb of Minneapolis. I was a tank lieutenant in the Army, but now I’m a graphic designer. My politics are fairly centrist, though I tend to lean left on social issues and right on fiscal matters. I’m practically libertarian when it comes to civil liberties, as I believe they are the foundation of individual freedom.

Some specifics: the invasion of Iraq was an unjustified mistake but we are honorbound to see it through. The Bush administration has been one of the most fiscally irresponsible regimes in history. They also win awards for secretiveness and willingness to trample on civil liberties. Hillary shouldn’t run for president, while Chuck Hagel should. Gay marriage is a simple matter of fairness.

And before you ask: yes, I voted for Jesse Ventura. It was a voting-booth decision, but it made sense at the time. Trust me, if you had been faced with the alternatives of “Skip” Humphrey and Norm Coleman, you would have picked Jesse, too.

Anyway, I look forward to the conversation with you.

Truer words have seldom been spoken. I actually don’t think Jesse was that bad as a governor. He was too think-skinned with the press and let himself get derailed by petty stuff.

Welcome. As a Pennsylvanian, I gladly would have voted for Jesse Ventura for governor of Minnesota.

Hello Sean, nice to meet you.
First I thank you for your service to our country.
Second, my take on your Iraq position is that you believe Iraq was an unjustified mistake that we need to keep making?
I have a question, what is a win in Iraq in your opinion and how long do you think its going to take to achieve that win? Feel free to add US and Iraqis causality estimates.
    Thank You
