Being There

I don’t know why, but I find this BBC video clip prophetic for the future of media, somehow.

The ‘Music Industry Expert’ being interviewed was the cab driver of the actual interviewee. When the interviewee’s name was called out, the cabbie spoke up and found himself on the BBC News talking about the future of downloading.

If you watch it several times, the hilarity of the moment will grow on you.

They showed us this on a news programme last night, along with one or two follow-ups.

He was in fact there, quite seperately, as an applicant for a job.

He had the same first name as the gentleman who it was intended would be interviewed on air.

The facts do not detract from what is a good story and even better chuckle …

The ITV interview (part of his new-found fame) was not played for laughs, a good thing.

I had the impression of a fairly shy man, not out of place in terms of his ability to handle the situation but certainly not where he expected to be… I can but wonder what the job was that he was applying for.
