[...] Hurricane season begins in two weeks. And for those who are still awaiting their FEMA trailer, There are these observations (emphasis mine): I was told that I would be allowed to live in the trailer for 18 months or until my house was finished. FEMA is not telling people that the 18 months starts on the date the Hurricane Katrina struck land and not 18 months from your recieving the trailer. Some people have not even gotten a trailer yet or have just revieved one and little do they know that on February 28, 2007 they will be out on the street. [...]

We are on the same page: don't forget about the victims of Katrina, a lot of people are still in really bad shape. But, why rely on an incompetent federal bureaucracy to effectate human charity and generosity? It is the least efficient way of helping and actually probably stunts progress. Highlighting the problem is the first step like you said. The second step in my opinion, is a grassroots effort -- schools, Churchs, civic organizations, exc. should organize like they have already done, to continue to help. The first blogger, Lena, comments on the graft of the corrupt politicians as the reason for lack of aid. This is unquestionably true, I have no doubt on it. It is also the nature of government contracting, particularly in Louisiana. So I call my representative and say "give more money to FEMA, provide more trailers, exc." He says "okay" and appropriates another 50 million dollars. The DosPeros Trailer Consortium gets excited about the new 50 mill. in contracts and so I grease the local politico 5 million and make my minority friend head of the company so I can butt-in-line in the name of progressivism. Lo' and behold, I get the contract. There are ten companies out there that will provide the labor and supplies for less and do the job better, but that is not how the government does business. The government does business over cocktails, which is very bad for people living in trailers in Louisiana.

As for the insurance and mortgage company, two suggestions: 1) vexatious refusal to pay, and 2) interplead those funds. Here's a better suggestion, send your checks to me and I'll go down and represent Lena. I've been want to eat some clams anyway, since the vodkapundit has been exciting me with the idea.
