Aha.
By amba | Related entries in Breaking News, Elections, General Politics, Partisan Hacks, WarI wondered what Rep. John Murtha’s motivation could possibly be for taking such an aggressive antiwar stance. Now I know, thanks to The Moderate Voice — he plans to run for Majority Leader (the No. 2 position) if the Dems take back the House.
Which probably just made it a little bit likelier that they won’t.
Leave it to the Dems to count their chickens before they’re hatched in a time of bird flu.

So he has taken an aggressive anti-war stance since November 2005 because he was planning to run for Majority Leader in January 2007?

It makes as much sense as any other explanation of what he’s been doing, lately.

It’s not even possible that he believes what he’s saying on the merits? And people call me cynical…

I’m of the opinion that this post is a response to those that say Murtha must be sincere in his anti-war views because he has not tried to use them to acquire more political power.
I don’t necessarily agree with either stance, it’s just my guess that this is where the post is coming from.

In what sense are the Dems counting their chickens? Murtha wants to run for majority leader if the Dems take back the House, and he thinks they will. Should he be predicting that they won’t? And do you really think a leadership battle starts the day after the election? If he wants to line up the votes, he’s got do it before the election. With that in mind, when would he be able to do this without you accusing the Dems of counting their chickens?
