The thing is, all countries view other countries by the actions they take in the international community, usually without thinking about the fact that the government of a country can be completely different than its people. We are all upset that Chavez wants to destroy "us." He is mad at our government. FYI - so are a LOT of other countries on this planet. They are worried that we have become bullies that will invade, pillage, destroy, convert, etc., whenever it suits our interests (and again, by "we" and "our" I mean the US gov't).

I don't want to think about countries banning together and plotting our demise, but isn't it at least comprehensible? Shouldn't this have been an obvious forseen consequence of our behavior, for at least the last 5 years or so?

This is why we need to reign in the current administration. Their behavior is going to get us hurt - "us" being the people that actually ARE the United States of America, who do not wish to see other countries injured in any way unless our assistance is requested or EXTREMELY VITAL to our best interests, but who can't seem to wake up and smell the BS and put a stop to our OOC gov't.

Bren,

So it doesn't bother you that he openly supports our demise? Do more than the cursory research on the guy and you won't find a saint --- you'll find a Castro wanna-be. Don;t believe the man's propaganda, he's nothing to admire.

Are you all mad? Chavez has been elected 8 times in the last 8 years. Thats an election a year. The last one was overseen by Jimmy Carter and a host of other independent advisors who all vouched that it was the fairest election that they have ever witnessed. Hardly a Tyrant is he?

He helps the poor with oil money. Even the american poor. Probably what Jesus would have done if he had a load of oil fields don't ya think?

Nutters, the lot of ya.

“Is Chavez About To Get Dangerous?

In response to your question. No, he is not! Hugo Chaves is written of in scripture. He is one of those 10 hornes that is mentioned in Revelations. America's doom has already been sealed. Her fall is irraversible. So, don't cast stones at Brother Hugo for taking his place that has already been written for him in the good book.

It is easy to pick on Sheehan. Sort of like playing basketball with a retarded kid and calling him for double dribbling. (thanks Chris Rock)

On the other hand, Chavez has a point. If there is one country that has intervened more than any in Latin America it would be the USA and sometimes whith horrifying effect. See Chile, Nicaragua, Guatemala. However, rather than building a belligerent armed nation, he should focus on solving his people's problems. Nationising their oil resources is a start as long as they can manage it properly and avoid the corruption that has plagued Mexico's national oil company Pemex. His nature is to tweak the nose of the US when he should show latin american nations a better way without selling off natural resources to the highest bidding foreign national.

Sheehan is becoming a caricature of herself.

But does anyone else think that Venezuela and NK forming an anti-U.S. alliance is a bit like a couple of ants deciding to ally against the anteater?

Korean ballistic missiles deployed in Venezuela would be a problem. But that would just trigger Cuban Missile Crisis II -- without the superpower support for the other side.

North Korea is isolated and under China's thumb. Venezuela's military is tiny and ineffective, their power-projection capability nil. Chavez is a would-be dictator, and his oil resources give him outsized clout. But color me unconcerned.

Oh, we'll need to respond. But this isn't an OMG moment or anything.

I haven't been too impressed with North Korea's recent tests. I'm surprised Chavez hasn't called Kim to say "ummm.. nevermind"
