They are anything but. It is Israel's response which is stupid, short-sighted, counterproductive and ineffective. On the opening day of the war- the Israeli air force commander promised to set Lebanon back 20 years, which they promply did. It set back Lebanon, and may ultimately put an end to the newly elected, democratic government of Lebanon, but it did nothing to Hezbollah of any significance except to strenghthen it politically. This response does not help Israel in its long-term war for survival. For Israel's long-term survival, there needs to be a political solution to the Israeli-Arab conflict, not a military solution.
