Lieberman is the de-facto Republican candidate. Schlessinger is a non-starter. A victory for Lieberman will be seen as a victory for Bush and a vindication of neoconservative policies. Let's not get confused here. Lieberman is Bush's proxy. A vote for Lieberman is a vote for Bush. They have had their sights on this Connecticut race for some time and the only way it serves their interest in the midterm election is if they can use it to portray the Democratic Party as weak on terror and being pulled further left by candidates like Ned Lamont.
