A Nice Example of Reaching Across Part Lines

By Dennis Sanders | Related entries in News

In these days where the two major political parties view the other party as the Evil that Will Destroy America, it’s nice to see an example of two politicians being friends to each other.

The New York Times has a great piece about Congressman Patrick Kennedy, son of Ted Kennedy and a Democratic Representative from Rhode Island and his road to sobriety. Last summer, the representative crashed into a barrier near the Capitol and later admitted that he was an alcoholic. Another representative came to his aid: Congressman Jim Ramstad, a GOP congressman from Minnesota who is also a recovering alcoholic.

Read the story. It reminds me that there is still hope that our political system can reform itself to see ourselves as friendly opponents and not mortal enemies.
