Except they're not working out that it's no one's fault. There's a pretty good chance right now that Hastert will go down. That increases the odds that the House will change hands. And that increases dramatically the odds that we can do something constructive (or at least obstructive) about the important issues.

I wish that wasn't the way the game is played, but it is. When you get an opening you take it.

If all it is, is entertainment, why don't we skip it? There's plenty of things going on behind the scenes while we're distracted with the bread and circuses getting paraded in the news.

There's a bill in the House that doesn't let lawyers collect fees when they sue for religious discrimination, which naturally means they won't sue for it. There's another one that says torture is okay, and on and on.

Yes, scandals, especially sex scandals, are titillating, but I think the whole story came out now as a smoke screen. Once they drop Foley, and work out that it wasn't anybody's fault for not looking at it before (they will, you know), these great new laws, and who knows what others, will already be in effect.

What really scares me is that Congress, who's supposed to represent us, is passing laws that will curtail our freedoms and/or allow abuses of power and abuses of people, without anybody hearing of these laws.

BTW, if I missed the sarcasm above, I do apologize. I've gotten really cynical and lost my sense of humor about this sort of thing months ago.

More scandal!

Come on people. Iraq is a black hole, Korea's intractable, Iran is another fiasco in the making, we can't seem to catch Osama and we have to endure two more years with a baboon in the White House.

But dirty emails to a congressional page? That's entertainment.
