First, I have to agree with Nick. Secondly I’d never bet on the true believers abandoning their belief in the evil of compromise in order to nominate Guiliani unless he really kowtows to them in which case he might lose the independents.

I don’t give a crap who the GOP props up there they are not going to win the next election. And it will not matter who the Dems put up either because he or she will win no matter what. So these polls mean nothing. The next president will be a Democrat. Period.

Nick, the only thing we get out here is the anally-conservative highly-republican-slanted dreck from tv stations and newspapers. I don’t for one minute believe anything I read or hear from those outlets (regardless, keep in mind I am NOT a democrat – or liberal by any means…. disaffected, that would be me.)

Links? You have some links from not-frothing-at-the-mouth venues? Something that points to a different direction than “principled moderate”?

Deidre, I used to think Rudy was a class act, and I think he was the right leader for New York at the time. Heck, I think he would have been great had he carried out his planned 2000 senate run against Hillary. (Wow, there are so many alternate histories in that scenario I don’t even know where to begin…)

But since then, he’s gone way down in my book. His performance in the 2004 presidential campaign (the convention and assorted media appearances) was just pitiful; he looked like nothing more than a party shill. I’d like to think he’s a principled moderate, but he hasn’t lived up to that billing from what I’ve seen.

I’m not surprised Rudy is strong in the polls. A lot of what is perceived as negatives are either negative only to a small group of people, or generally not well known. Candidates are always strongest before they start to campaign, and the public really gets a good look at them. I’m not a Hilary fan, but I think it’s fair to say that her negatives are much more well established with voters.

Good for Rudy. A lot of the rest of us (those who don’t live on the Eastern Seaboard, and don’t have anything resembling “personal” loss as regards 9-11) still think Rudy’s a class act – based in large part on his presence, his articulate response, his genuine grief and even more genuine ability in the face of a tragedy the magnitude of which this country had not seen in more years than I care to consider.

I’m female…. but I wouldn’t vote for Hil if she was the last person in the states running for pres – I’d vote for “none of the above” first, even though that’s a major cop-out. Sure, I’d love to see a viable female candidate for the Presidency – but she’s not it, nor is Ms. Rice. I don’t think I know of one offhand….

Bottom line of course is that I’m basically a monarchist: a royal family is perfect – nothing but figureheads, and you ALWAYS know what sort of idiot you’ll have on the stamps. Yah, I “get” why the Founding Fathers kicked the British out – but I personally think it’s time to invite Andy (or whoever) over, and get on with business while he simpers and smiles and has no real affect on the politics as usual. I guess I just will never understand what changing idiots every few years accomplishes.

Disaffected? Yup. That would be me.
