Hastert’s Suspect Land Deal Resurfaces

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Legislation, Money

When it rains, it pours.

From Political Animal:

Here’s the nickel summary: In 2002 Hastert bought some land for a house along with some adjoining fields. He paid about $5,200 per acre for the fields.

Eighteen months later, he formed a land trust with a couple of local Republican politicos. The trust bought 69 acres of land adjacent to Hastert’s for about $15,000 per acre (it was nearer a road and therefore more valuable) and Hastert then added 69 acres of his own land to the trust.

I’ll give you one guess what happened after that.

Trust me…read the whole thing.

UPDATE:
Porkbusters also has something to say about it.

Although, it would appear as he did nothing illegal, if charges are brought I would suggest he get the Rose Law Firm to represent him - it is my understanding they have experience in this type of thing.
