33% And Other Bad News For Bush
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in General Politics, Polls
This is what a sex scandal can do to your Presidency.
the president’s approval rating has fallen to a new all-time low for the Newsweek poll: 33 percent, down from an already anemic 36 percent in August. Only 25 percent of Americans are satisfied with the direction of the country, while 67 percent say they are not.
And not only that…
Democrats now outdistance Republicans on every single issue that could decide voters’ choices come Nov. 7. In addition to winningfor the first time in the NEWSWEEK pollon the question of which party is more trusted to fight the war on terror (44 to 37 percent) and moral values (42 percent to 36 percent), the Democrats now inspire more trust than the GOP on handling Iraq (47 to 34); the economy (53 to 31); health care (57 to 24); federal spending and the deficit (53 to 29); gas and oil prices (56 to 23); and immigration (43 to 34).
It’s a tough time. There is most likely going to be some swing back, but probably only enough to hold onto the Senate. The polls are trending towards the Dems taking the House and having the Senate be pretty much evenly divided.
More as it becomes available.

I would love to see the democrats get a clear majority in both houses, mostly because bush is so out of control. On the other hand I don’t think now is a good time to impeach him.
Don’t get me wrong, I think you could easily make a case and remove him. But we have a lot of problems to deal with right now, and consuming months of the congressional calendar for an impeachment doesn’t seem like a good idea. Especially if the end result if President Cheney. Like most scalawags he and his crew will probably escape punishment for the harm they have done to this country.
To bad really, they deserve to tried for treason.

I detest Bush but don’t think impeachment is a good idea either. we have too many problems with the country and need to worry about fixing those rather than engaging in politics which will just look like tit for tat. Now if he continues being a moron and insists on “staying the course” after the Dems take this election, maybe we will need to reconsider.

Iraq is a mess, in large part because (until recently) the Republicans have been in denial. They allowed the Bush Administraion to lead us into this swamp with very little criticism or oversight. Criticism will be supplied if the Democrats gain control of one house, but the gumbo in this swamp is very sticky; I don’t believe that there is any easy way out. The largest gain from the Democrats winning, besides demonstrating to the Republicans dissatifaticion with their leadership, will likely be a more nonpartisian approach to governing, which is likely the key for getting us out of Iraq.

Well, if you’re using that as an interrelational equation for reasoning away public opinion, then…
On the merits of his Presidency alone, the GOP should lose about 40-50 seats in The House, and about 20-30 in The Senate.
