He was the cheif Democratic critic of Clinton during Monicagate, and spent countless hours talking about it, with comparitively no time spent talking about North Korea; that is why Schlesinger's criticism holds up. That Schlesinger did well in the debate is hardly limited to what the left wants you to believe, as the Hartford Courant has been criticized in this race for being pro-Lieberman if anything. Also to say only the left saw a strong performance is totally misrepresenting Schlesinger's success, which was only with conservative voters; he was too sloppy about mentioning race and too overdramatic in some of his responses to appeal to moderates. Lamont was the one who won the debate among moderates, but it was just as much due to looking statesmanlike by having Schlesinger take over the role of attack dog as it was due to Lieberman's condescention and sense of entitlement.
