One month after Bush was elected the Republicans ended the spending constraints that brought us a surplus. That surplus, followed by deficit spending, was used in key states to gain future election victories by bringing home the bacon. That act was completely against everything the contract with America stood for. In the euphoria after the election most conservatives did not say anything about this Rove inspired power play, as long as the Republicans won elections against the demonized Democrats they did not care. Conservatism became a cult of liberal bashing, not a political philosophy. Now they are saying they need to go back to their beliefs? The first step in this direction would be to cut out the AM demagogs and start talking about policy instead of liberals. Good luck.

Poor Peggy! There is nothing more pathetic that a sycophant who's illusions have been shattered.

But we have to remember what her job is. She is not on a quest for truth, she is on a quest for a paycheck. Now that it looks like the wind is blowing in a new direction, she will try to catch it. Like all the vacuous cable news talking heads, it is now stylish to be anti-bush.

If she had started objecting before the polls started showing a republican melt down, I might have a little respect for her. But I'll bet this has more to do with her approval rating than any great epiphany.

There were too few--too few--people from the right who were willing to put aside blind partisanship and see the current administration for what it is. There's much to respect in the conservative ideology--but this group does not and has not represented it in anything other than lip service.

The administration and many of the Republican leadership in the house and senate is more about power than politics.

Probably the most startling big name Republican to come out against Bush in 2004 was John Eisenhower, son of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It's a shame that others didn't heed is wisdom.

Sadly, as we go down to the wire, we're seeing more nonsense as "Republicans" ramp up the volume on idiotic issues like gay marriage, flag burning, bogus terrorism scare tactics, tax hike stupidity....you'd think people would be wise to it, but I can feel it working in the circles I frequent.

I would not be surprised if the Dems failed at gaining control of either the house or senate....
