Our Friends The Saudis

This is simply disgusting…

A Saudi court has sentenced a gang rape victim to 90 lashes of the whip because she was alone in a car with a man to whom she was not married. [...]

Saudi courts take marital status into account in sexual crimes. A male friend of the rape victim was also sentenced to 90 lashes for being alone with her in the car.

The court heard that the victim and her friend were followed by the assailants to their car, kidnapped and taken to a remote farm, where the raping occurred.

Literally unbelievable. My prayers are with the victims. You deserve so much more from your country.

Yuck. At least in the US, the public whipping of the victim is only metaphorical.

    wow.

Well, at least they punished the rapists, too. To hear some clerics talk (e.g. the one in Australia recently), some would consider that they are not responsible for their actions if temptation comes their way.

It’s really sad that this set of sentences might actually be considered forward-looking in some parts of the world. Sad, but unfortunately true.

… damn good thing they weren’t U.S. citizens in opposition to Bush policies.

Then they’d be tortured in Guantanamo for life.
