Robert Gates New Defense Secretary

With Rumsfeld gone, Bush is tapping the former CIA head…literally…

“I recognize that many Americans voted last night to register their displeasure with the lack of progress being made” in Iraq, Bush said. (Bush discusses Rumsfeld’s resignation — 1:27)

Bush said he has “a series of thoughtful conversations” with Rumsfeld about the defense secretary’s resignation.

Former CIA chief Robert Gates, who headed that agency from 1991 until 1993, will be nominated to take over as defense secretary, Bush said Wednesday.

Gates is now president of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.

Clean slate? We shall see.

I do like that he’s acknowledging the voice of the voters. That one line is significant…let’s just hope it continues.

It is good to see that the action is taken to remove Mr. Rumsfeld. Also, majority of the general public is not aware of Mr. Robert Gates and his credentials. He may not bring new fresh ideas as he will continue with current policy as per joint statement yesterday.

From my prespective, it would not be a bad idea for democrats to nominate Senator John McCain as he seems like independent thinker and will change the course in IRAQ. (if this is possible constitutionally).

    Thanks
