Murtha deserves some credit for speaking out against the war, is impeccably qualified to do so and gave the Dems a spine-transplant on the issue. Pelosi publicly gave Murtha no cover, saying “Murtha speaks for himself,” though she had helped convince him to come forward and helped orchestrate the timing. The Dems, far from being as hapless as they were portrayed, successfully dodged the GOP’s efforts to make them counter-offer on Social Security, skewered the Bushies on the Dubai ports deal, and forced the GOP to start an investigation on pre-war intelligence. Maybe neither Murtha nor Hoyer are the ideal candidates, but whichever is chosen, I will support them and expect them to be paragons of virtue. Can Murtha keep it clean as Speaker? Can Hoyer? They better ! But for now, I’m not going to be making divisive noises about our need for politicians with squeaky clean pasts (are there any?) to run the House or Senate.

So…. she has left her party with two options… either she gets her way in her first decision as house speaker and puts a crook in the position, OR she loses her first battle with her own party, which is more than just a possibility. Nice start huh…

Welcome to the Big Game everyone. In which no one is happy and little gets done. Murtha is what Murtha is. The simple fact is NO ONE should be in power for that long.

Even Jesus F#%*&^!! Christ would begin to get some dirt on his hands after that long in politics with that many people offering easy money.

Don’t worry, there will be many more. I would suggest that the choice of Martinez has everything do with his last name. The gop has a legitimate thang for the our brown brothers to the South and I’m all for it. Michelle Malken can put her immigration handwringing in a burrito and eat it. The Mexicans are hard workers and good family people, they tend to vote Republican if given a chance. They tend not to obsess on the penumbra of rights associated with cornholing. I’ve yet to see **anybody** produce legitimate economic studies that show illegals are bad for the economy. Martinez may be as dump as a box of rocks — if its an overture to la gente, I’m all for it.

Moderate mojo? His moderation seems to be born of political expedience and insider influence peddling. Steny Hoyer isn’t exactly a shining beacon of anti-corruption, but he’s less stained than Murtha.

If they’re going to kick Hoyer down, they could at least replace him with someone who’s less “part of the system.”
