It&#039;s my belief that one of the reasons the US has only two parties is because they don&#039;t require complete party discipline.  You can vote against your party and not lose party backing.  The voting records of Northern vs Southern Democrats are a prime example of this.  In Canada they&#039;d likely be two different parties.</description>

		<description>Thank you for this info.  I was always confused at the parliamentary voting, and whether it was for the party or a candidate.

I have always been a huge supporter of having more than just two parties.  This bickering between Republicans and Democrats in the US is annoying.  And to have better accountability the US needs more than two parties.  I always thought having at least 4 or 5 parties would keep a better eye on the administration and congress.</description>
