Border Fence Company Used Illegals

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Bad Decisions, Immigration

There are no words…

A fence-building company in Southern California agrees to pay nearly $5 million in fines for hiring illegal immigrants. Two executives from the company may also serve jail time. The Golden State Fence Company’s work includes some of the border fence between San Diego and Mexico.

After an immigration check in 1999 found undocumented workers on its payroll, Golden State promised to clean house. But when followup checks were made in 2004 and 2005, some of those same illegal workers were still on the job. In fact, U-S Attorney Carol Lam says as many as a third of the company’s 750 workers may have been in the country illegally.

Jeezus…

What complete and utter hypocrisy. I hope they end up losing their entire fencing company, business license, lock, stock, and barrel. The fact that this company was in government employ and openly flaunting US labor law simultaneously exposes a deep rift in the ethics of these businessmen, and, much as Enron laid bare earlier ethical lapses on the part of several corporate CEO’s, this instance should give people pause to deeply reconsider their hiring practices, and deciding for themselves if making that extra margin on profit because of reduced wages paid to illegal workers is really and truly worth it. This issue is a biggie…

Bert; I agree, this example clearly shows the extent corporations will go to enhance their bottom line at the expense of the broad populace. If you’re against anything favorable to big business then you’re labeled ‘socialist liberal’, and ignored as anti-American. But isn’t this due to the backlash from all those years of Democratic control and union contract excesses?
What we need is an honest debate about the role of government in our economy, and sit back and watch the fireworks fly !

Because I have a sick sense of humor this made me laugh out loud. The irony of this is simply too rich for words.
