Kennedy had planned to make the CIA more transparent before his assassination. Johnson killed it. I think I remember Congress addressing the problem after Viet Nam, & again after Iran Contra. Obviously, they didn't do the job well enough. Now we have a Congress hamstrung due to a sizable Republican minority in the Senate, as we have already seen. Unless the Republicans start abandoning the Bush/Cheney ship, nothing will be done till at least 2009. Of course, the right wing will dismiss Hersh's report simply because it appears in "The New Yorker". It would help if Negroponte went public with his views, but that is not likely to happen. The Cheney administration has a long track record of firing people who disagrees with him. The question is, will Congress do anything?
