I have cancer--a type that isn't curable--and I fully understand that it's Elizabeth Edwards' decision how she wants to live out the rest of her life. You can't control the cancer--you accept the treatments and hope--but one of the things you can control is your own sense of dignity and worth. It isn't really about what someone else thinks you ought to do once you have to face this--it's about fully living your days. This is her life, whatever is left of it, and she wants to spend it doing something that she believes in.

You know Bonnie, between your comment and <a href="http://maverickviews.blogspot.com/2007/03/in-support-of-edwards.html" rel="nofollow">Alan Stewart Carl's thoughtful post</a>, I think I've changed my mind about this issue.

I thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts here.

I admire Elizabeth Edwards very much, and I am so sorry that cancer has spread to her bones. I have read her wonderful book, "Saving Graces". I would reccommend this book to everyone. After the death of their oldest son, Wade, Elizabeth had said that nothing, not even the diagnosis of her breast cancer, could ever compare to that hurt that she suffered from the loss of a child. She had the wonderful support of her husband, John. I believe John could carry on his duties as president, and still be there for his lovely family. They are a very close, united family, who take care of each other. I believe Elizabeth would be an asset to him in his campaign. She loves her husband and knows that he would be great as America's next president. I truly hope this will not affect people's minds about voting for John Edwards. It makes me more determined to vote for him. They are a strong family with high morals and they are to be commended for their bravery. God bless this family. I pray that Elizabeth's cancer can be treated, and that this sweet lady will have many more years to live.
