It stems from taunts by the whitey-ghost men in which they painted red semi-colons on our doors, symbolizing our fragmented and rambling mode of speech. To this day, whenever I see a semicolon I remember my poor grandmother shouting: "Cursed be you; the evil whitey painter; a painter on the door; blasted red semicolon bastards!!!!" And breaking down in tears. So confused, with all do respect, will you please refrain from the gratuitous use of semicolons.
