Senator McCain isn’t being very honest… He acts like he doesn’t know what Barry Goldwater thought, and can’t ask him since he’s “no longer with us.”

Goldwater famously said of gays in the military, “I don’t care if they are straight as long as they can shoot straight.”

    So much for “straight” talk…

The opinions of the generals would have been substantially the same (and probably more accurately so) if President Truman had asked them their opinions on racial integration of the military half a century ago. Fortunately, Truman didn’t ask, he just did what was right. McCain should take the lesson to heart.

Wow, where have I heard the whole, “I listen to my generals,” thing before? That’s become such an amazingly lame cop-out answer at this point.

  4. sleipner Says:

What’s worse is that this administration fires the generals that don’t say what they want them to say, so “listening to the generals” is like listening to the echoes from within their own empty skulls.

  5. Jim S Says:

“I listen to the old people like myself two generations separated from the majority of troops.”
