John Kerry On John Edwards

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, General Politics, History

Bob Shrum is a political power broker, and he’s about to unleash a new book about the Democrats, his life in the party and the back door deals he witnessed.

It should be a hell of a read, and this passage in particular about an experience that John Kerry had with John Edwards is particularly chilling…

Kerry talked with several potential picks, including Gephardt and Edwards. He was comfortable after his conversations with Gephardt, but even queasier about Edwards after they met. Edwards had told Kerry he was going to share a story with him that he’d never told anyone elseâ€â€?that after his son Wade had been killed, he climbed onto the slab at the funeral home, laid there and hugged his body, and promised that he’d do all he could to make life better for people, to live up to Wade’s ideals of service. Kerry was stunned, not moved, because, as he told me later, Edwards had recounted the same exact story to him, almost in the exact same words, a year or two beforeâ€â€?and with the same preface, that he’d never shared the memory with anyone else. Kerry said he found it chilling, and he decided he couldn’t pick Edwards unless he met with him again.

Makes me think yet again about Edwards’ decision to run while Elizabeth is sick.

How about you?

I suggest you look in to this if this bothers you. I have read conflicting accounts. Shrum is not exactly an unbiased source.

    That’s freakin’ disgusting

Shrum is an incompetent jackass who will probably never be hired by any politician again after all the campaigns he failed. Given that he needs sensational stuff to make money from book sales now I question his accuracy.

WHO LISTENS TO JOHN KERRY THESE DAYS. HE PICKED EDWARDS AS HIS RUNNING MATE, NOW HE IS CRITIZING HIM FOR BEING UPSET ABOUT THE LOSS OF HIS SON, THE GREATEST LOSS A PERSON CAN HAVE.

LOSING ANY FAMILY MEMBER INCLUDING A SPOUSE IS SO DIFFICULT, BUT LOSING A CHILD IS UNDESCRIBABLE.

I THINK JOHN EDWARS IS A MUCH MORE MATURE MAN AND KNOWS FAR IN ADVANCE THAT HE MAY LOSE HIS WIFE AND HAS FACED UP TO IT AND WHILE IT WILL BE BE A TERRIBLE AND HORRIBLE SITUATION FOR HIM HE WOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE IT. GOD WE PRAY THAT IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.

KERRY, GET OFF YOUR HORSE AND SUPPORT THE ONLY MEMBER OF YOUR OWN PARTY THAT IS CAPABLE.

Edwards is living in an alternate reality. Another terrorist plot to kill American citizens is stopped in New York (with thanks to the work of Bush) and Edwards calls terrorism a bumper sticker slogan. If Edwards were president, it would take a nuclear explosion on US soil for him to wake-up.
