Interesting perspective today from Dale Franks at QandO:
Read the rest of his post and pay attention to John Edwards’ former internet campaign manager’s meditations (or lamentations) about the 4th of july. I think Dale is right about the nutroots.

Got to love the “If America only had the resolve to dominate the world, it could, it really could!” folks. I have to stop myself from time to time and have a little laugh everytime I hear one of these so-called “patriots” wax poetically about how “we live the greatest country in the world” and “if you don’t like it–then leave it!” or my very favorite “these guys are over their dying for your freedom–FREEDOM IS NOT FREE YA KNOW.”
No, freedom isn’t free and no one ever said it was. But really, what in the f! does my freedom have to do with the fact that the American army is occupying and invading a country that had zilch to do with the attacks of 9/11? It doesn’t got a G’damn thing to do with my freedom, and if it does it involves the price I’m going to pay at one of the countless petro-chemical fill’er up stations not whether my right to assemble is protected, or whether I have a right to due process under the law. Their are two very distinct “freedoms” in this country, the first is the right for the massively rich and politically well connnected to steer this nation of 300 plus million people into peril based on lies, discete and corruption and then there’s the real freedom most in this country have come to know. This freedom doesn’t provide you or me with nice little perks and get out of jail free cards, this freedom doesn’t pay for the overwhlmingly poor and impoverished lower class in this country. Hell! all you have to do to earn yourself a spot in death row is be a black man at the wrong place and wrong time, never mind the DNA evidence you’ve pleaded to be reentered into a retrial is dimissed, especially knowing that you didn’t commit the crime you were prosecuted for. But there will be no repreeve for him or commutation for the innocent people that have been murdered on death row in the past, no! these are throw away people. They aren’t your average K-street lobbyist with a posh bungalow in D.C.’s political district, no! these are real Americans.
So when I hear someone talking romantically about the picture perfect America they want to see–I cannot but help laugh. Yeah! brave young Americans are dieing alright, they aren’t dieing to protect my freedom though as evidenced by the fact that since this war began American “freedoms” have been under nothing but attack. Under attack by the very Americans that claim they cherrish these freedoms. What freedoms are those? the freedom to go out and shop til I drop? No thank you. I’ll take my country back thank you very much!

Well, at least people like Jeremy are being honest. If I were a German citizen in 1939 when Hitler invaded Poland, I wouldn’t feel very patriotic either. Nor would I support the Nazi troops. Nor would I abrogate responsibility away from the Nazi troops (particularly volunteers) who obeyed orders to carry out war-crimes and execute Der Furer’s imperialist ambitions.
