Try living here here guys! £1 / $2 a liter try that for size. Has been above as well, really hard going.

Still my Ford Focus is pretty good at consumption, in my boy racer days I was spending hand over fist lol :D

No. Not feeling it. Not really. I've been trying to save gas, but not because of the money. I just feel guilty about having such a long commute (30 miles each way).

On the plus side, I got 37.5 mpg out of my last tank - my best ever. In an American car, no less! (Of course, Saturn doesn't make anything that efficient anymore)

Gas in my state (Washington) tends to be higher, nationally, than other states. The west coast in general pays the highest fuel costs compared to the rest of the nation for several reasons. That's the price we pay to live in a combustion world. People rather jump in their Hummers and drive 4 blocks to the store rather than walk there. No matter the resource we use to propel our vehicles it will always be costly, whether that be electricity or biodiesel or hydrogen, it doesn't matter--companies will find a way to commodify it and sell it at a premium no matter what is used. Although it makes more sense to buy expense water to run your car than expensive gasoline which pollutes our air and water.

I remember they were saying in the 40s and 50s whey people that "nuclear power would make available electricity so cheap we could give practically give it away for free." That's ignoring of course, the reality of commodification. If something can be sold rather than given away then so it tends to be.
