		<description>Agreed that he won&#039;t be accepted, but still...could he become the PM? That appears to be the plan of some on the right, and if that happens...wow...what a cluster that would be.

Ultimately I think while the vacation was crazy, we just need to get behind al-Maliki and see what they can come up with. But they&#039;ll have to do it on their own timetable, not our election cycle. And if they want us out, we should leave. It&#039;s their country now. We did our job. Time to come home.</description>

		<description>Allawi will never, ever be accepted. It would be worse than overthrowing Diem in &#039;63 who at least was seen as a nationalist by all factions.

The problem is that there is no center - no secular faction powerful enough to displace the Shias. At best, we&#039;d end up with someone more willing to stick his neck out - just as likely to get it chopped off by Sadr or someone else.

At worst - we&#039;d end up with someone in Tehran&#039;s pocket.</description>
