After Mr. Paul spoke, it seemed half the room booed, but the other applauded.

NOTE: The booing/applauding was a result of Fox News flashing Rudy’s smirking face up on a split screen, seen by the audience. The crowd started booing as soon as Rudy’s face appeared.

It was not in response to Paul’s remarks.

They all got difficult questions. Giuliani didn’t snicker when they asked about his various divorces, nor did Romney when asked about comparing his boys helping his campaign as the same as troops fighting in Iraq. Dr. Paul gave the best answer, “He takes his marching orders from the Constitution.” He was the only one on that stage that can make that claim. The others are a pack of weasels.

So what you’re basically saying is, the GOP is willing to lose this election, give us 4 years of a devastating Obama/Hillary/Edwards administration, then make an actual serious try in the election after that?

Giuliani was laughing. You can see Wallace glance to his right towards Giuliani’s direction when the laughs are heard.

I think there is one basic rule for the GOP candidates:

You cannot support the war and win this election. You probably cannot support the war and win the nomination.

Huckabee has proven to be the most shrewd of the GOP contenders and will be in it to the end depending on whether he raises enough money this quarter. However, his fracas with Ron Paul, while providing good soundbytes, will come back to haunt him with his “honor” argument.

I couldn’t tell for sure, but it sounded to me like it was Giulliani cackling every time that Ron Paul spoke, sometimes even before he spoke, just because his name was called by the moderator. I’d really like to know who it was.

That’s one thing that has REALLY pissed me off about these Republican debates.

Someone else will speak up and you can literally hear snickers and jeers from the other candidates as they speak.

They have opinions and viewpoints guys, and if you can’t respect that and let them talk then why the heck do you think you deserve to run my country?

This seems to be the same point MW made with his “Vietnam-Wrong Question” series of posts. I assume that Ron Paul is predicting there won’t be a blood bath. Of course, he would never make such a blunt prediction, no politician wants to set himself up to take responsibility if he is wrong, not even the only man who can save America – Ron Paul(Peace Be Upon Him).

I know the Paulonians are not going to like this (and let me just remind them that I do really like Ron Paul), but I cannot help but think –

This base of support that Dr. Paul has tapped into, that Noonan calls “something going on”, is a natural constituency for Chuck Hagel should he jump into the race, without the baggage of the “fringe factor” carried by Paul. It is fundamentally an anti-war conservative/Republican constituency and it is real and it just may be the only salvation for the GOP.

I’m not saying Hagel is better than Paul. I’m just saying that with Hagel you get 80-90% of Ron Paul issues, with the added benefit of a candidate that can – you know – actually be elected President. Of course, he has got to find the cojones to run first.

I guess people are starting to wake up
There are 4 stages of accepting the un popular
First they ignored him
Then they ridiculed him
now they are fighting him.
The only thing left for them to do is say they agreed with him all along.

The Republican party can grow from nominating Ron Paul.
50 million republicans 50 million dem’s and 100 million other.
Ron Paul attracts half of the republicans and most of the others. Dems are starting to convert, me included.
The GOP could grow to 80 million by electing Paul
